The Numbers In Action (NIA) software is the self-calculating, digital representation of the Numbers Up range of tangible teaching aids.
Each tool in the Numbers Up range (numbered flip-books, pie wheels, 100 squares, etc) can be represented on a computer screen or classroom interactive whiteboard, and the visuals behave in the same way as their physical counterparts.
While the children manipulate the physical apparatus at their desks, the "virtual" version is helping them along the way up on the whiteboard! Below is one example of many hundreds of variables...
As a teacher's tool, this software is an essential component of the entire Numbers Up range as it allows the teacher to demonstrate the literally hundreds of arithmetic tasks inherent in the Numbers Up apparatus, then highlight the steps children will use to make required calculations.
With built-in calculation capability, the software ensures correct answers are given on-screen.
In addition to being a vital teacher's aid, the NIA software can be used by children - either individually, or in groups - to check their answers and to confirm their logic in applying processes to fundamental arithmetic concepts and rules.
